“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (Proverbs 4:23 ESV)
Millions of notifications beg for our attention every day. Millions of vendors sell their moral souls for a chance you would buy their wares.
Millions of news sites, bloggers, micro influencers, producers, executive boards, directors, authors, characters, and personalities reach out to touch you as you walk by, offering a quick dose of something that might give you a break but has nothing of substance.
The crowd throws rocks at your window, banging the walls of your heart, but Jesus knocks at your door.
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” (Psalm 23:5 ESV)
People can leave you high and dry. The news can terrify you and discourage you. Friendships come and go. TikTok and Netflix won’t give you any joy because they aren’t the source. Hype fades. “Beauty is vain.” Markets crash, producers sell, consumers buy.
The world is full of nothing. Filled to the brim with water that will leave you thirsty, and bread that will leave you hungry.
Jesus offers something different to those who open their door to Him:
“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35 ESV)
Later, in a vision of what seems to be the end of this world, He repeats His call:
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20 ESV)
Open the door to Him. He is the only peace that lasts in a world full of worry.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)
Commune with Him, talk with Him, let Him know everything you need. Let His peace guard your heart.
